Dear Parents, We are asking you to help us and your child with a read-at-home program. We would like your child to join the Pine Glen Reading Corps. This program is designed to encourage the children to spend a few minutes of their own time reading. In order for this program to be effective, we need your assistance. Your child will bring home a reading record chart like the one below. Each blank on the chart represents a 15 minute time period. When your child completes 15 minutes of reading at home, he/she will ask you to write the date and your initials in one block on the chart. When the chart has been completed, your child will return it to school and will enter the first level of the Reading Corps - Enlistee. For each completed reading record chart returned to school, your child will advance in rank, through the 14 ranks of the Reading Corps. When the student becomes a 5 Star General he/she can choose a school shirt or a cap. Only one shirt or cap can be earned each year. The child's name will also be mentioned in our weekly news bulletin. This program has been in effect for years, and it has been very successful.
