Mission Statement
The Burlington Public School’s child care programs provide a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment for families requiring quality child care for before school, after school, and summer vacation. Our mission emphasizes creating an atmosphere that balances student learning, enrichment, physical activity, and free time in a stimulating and enjoyable setting. The child care programs offered by the Burlington Schools provide parents with safe, convenient, reliable, and affordable out-of-school time care for their children. The programs maintain clear policies and procedures and actively encourage and welcome open communication and parent involvement.
The Burlington School Department’s Child Care Programs are staffed by experienced elementary school teachers, childcare professionals, and assistants. A staff/child ratio of 1:9 is maintained in the kindergarten program. A staff/child ratio of 1:10 is maintained in grades one through five. We offer a variety of structured activities and field trips throughout the school year. The Programs do not charge registration or membership fees nor do they charge additional fees for special programs, field trips, transportation, or snacks.
The After School Child Care Program is available to children enrolled in the Burlington Elementary Schools. The Program is housed at the Francis Wyman Elementary School and uses the cafeteria, as well as a large designated space with a complete kitchen, private bathrooms, access to the gym, computer lab, playground, and a private entrance for picking-up and dropping-off children. Transportation by school bus is provided from the Memorial, Pine Glen, and Fox Hill Schools.
Summer Central is available to students attending the Burlington Elementary Schools who are entering grades 1 through 6 in September. We are located at The Francis Wyman Elementary School and operate from 7:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. from the last week in June until a week and a half before the starting date of the new school year. We schedule a variety of activities and field trips throughout the summer.
The Before School Program is offered at each of the elementary schools. The program operates from 7:05 a.m. until the teachers come on duty. The program is closed when school is closed or when there is a delayed opening. The Before School program is available to children in grades kindergarten through five.
